Gavin Kingsley burst into my life in a sharp and unexpected twist of fate. You know his type—arrogant, dangerously handsome and impossible to ignore.
Something dark within him calls to the shadows inside me. I long for the kind of heart-wrenching passion I’ve only read about, and his tragic past reads like one of my favorite literary classics. Raw. Visceral. Captivating. Together, we’re a perfect mess.
The deeper I fall into his world, the more I crave him like a drug—he pushes every boundary I have, and challenges everything I thought I wanted. I want to unlock his heart. I want his dirty secrets.
But in the end, will he be the blade that cuts me … or the bond that makes my life complete?
Emma Bell a librarian obsessed with tall dark and handsome, Gavin. She watches him daily in the local coffee shop, but she’s reluctant to strike up a conversation. One day Gavin leaves his card, and she finds out his name and what he does for a living. Curiosity Killed the Cat for Emma; she applies for a position. Gavin knows she’s not right for the job and rejects her. Enter the younger, laid back Kingsley brother with a brilliant idea. Emma can be their personal escorts when they have to attend charity functions. Emma accepts the proposal, and the fun begins.
Cooper is easy. (In more ways than one.) He’s fun, outgoing, and down to earth. Cooper has no problems striking up discussions with random people. He’s the Kingsley brother Emma should want, but she doesn’t. Emma prefers tall, dark, and mysterious Gavin. Cooper and Gavin are in a peculiar competition for her attention. It got somewhat old, but Cooper had a lot of fun teasing and goading Gavin. And Gavin made it easy when he reacted ever single time Cooper mentioned Emma.
Gavin is so irresistible. I wanted Emma to end up with Gavin. Gavin is the right guy to corrupt this innocuous-looking librarian just discovering her self-worth. Yes folks, Emma has secrets too. Her secrets may be as deep as Gavin’s. Maybe that’s why she preferred him.
What I adored about the book- Well, Gavin was so hot I needed a hefty glass of ice water. He was a darker character, with many secrets. Peel back that onion Kendall Ryan, I’m ready for Gavin’s deepest darkest secrets!
Emma was a fascinating character. She grew up with country clubs and parents who cherished her, unlike Gavin. Gavin craves control and Emma’s more than happy to give herself to him. She’s “mousy” but she has so much curiosity. She ended the agreement when Gavin became her numero uno obsession, however when a situation arises, Emma calls Cooper instead of Gavin. The entire book was a push & pull love affair, and I loved it.
What I didn’t like about this juicy romance story- The cliffhanger ending. OMG, I’m counting the days till the next book comes out! The pace of the story was slow, however I knew there was a reason. Gavin’s secrets have to come out at a slower pace because Emma/Gavin’s story concludes in Dirty Little Promise.
