Last Chance is a story of love and heartache proving that life is not always fair,
but it’s worth the pain to get the moments you’ll treasure forever.
From the very first
moment I laid eyes on him, I knew my heart was his for the taking. He was the boy
who filled me with butterflies and made my palms turn clammy at the mere sight of

Before my reality changes forever.
I never wanted a girlfriend; I was burned
by love and vowed to never go down that road again. But when the beautiful girl
I’ve known practically my entire life snuck her way into my arms there was
something that changed in me. I wanted to be with her, next to her. Just simply
kissing her lips made my life complete.
Now I have one mission.
To make hers complete, too.
First, go get the tissues ready because Last Chance will make you ugly cry. Mackenzie is spunky and independent. She’s been in love with her best friend’s older brother since she was ten. When she returns to town she he pursues him. Luckily her best friend mentioned her about a club Connor often goes to.
If you’ve read Lauren Runow’s other books you’d know all about the club. Adding that morsel, but she doesn’t include that into the central plotline. One of many reasons I love Lauren’s books.
Mackenzie and Connor’s developing love isn’t what causes you to cry. It’s not that kind of second chance romance book. Yes, it’s beautiful when Connor notices the girl he’s always considered a kid, but Mackenzie has a big secret. Full disclosure- I couldn’t wait until Mackenzie’s secret was revealed. I looked. Sorry not sorry! Understandably, she’s reluctant to tell Connor because it will shatter his heart. Oh how I love Mackenzie’s dear diary moments. It reminds me of my own when I was a lovestruck teenager.
At the same time Connor’s he’s a workaholic lawyer who has no time for love. He rather hit it and quit it until he notices Mackenzie. Mackenzie, the girl who’s had a crush on him since she was ten, is now a hottie! Connor helps her find roommates–who happen to live in the apartment below his. Bam! He can’t stay away from her! Time to swoon!
Hold the phone! The secret doesn’t stay a secret for the entire book. I wasn’t too sure I wanted to finish because I hate books that make me ugly cry. My emotions were all over the place. I went on, and I’m so glad I did.
Mackenzie has this checklist of items she wants to do. Connor helps her with all the experiences. It draws them closer as a couple. Sleeping under the stars or making out in the rain, Connor is by her side checking every box on her list.
