It’s said the truth shall set you free…but does it really?
Only hours after marrying Skylar, Jackson is placed under arrest and is being extradited back to Massachusetts to face the charges against him. His arrest goes viral and the internet gets flooded with rumors and theories about who his victim could be.
With DNA evidence on her side ambitious prosecutor, Adrianne Washington, is offering no deals and is ready to proceed to trial. However, her rush to judgment may have less to do with facts and more to do with a personal vendetta.
Unforeseen problems lurk around every corner and the newly married couple find themselves being tested in ways they never imagined. With the world falling apart around them, Jackson and Skylar are determined to keep their family together. Yet will all their efforts be in vain? Is the damage that’s been done to their lives beyond repair? Does the truth really set you free or are there some secrets that should stay buried?
Skylar and Jackson are in trouble oh my! I couldn’t put the book down but at the same time I didn’t want it to end! Condemned was SO good I was left with the dreaded book hangover.
Skylar did some shady things when she was 16 but it’s not like she had a choice. She was pregnant. She loved Jackson so much, she couldn’t even imagine him going to jail for her mistake. But secrets never really stay hidden, do they? Years later, Skylar has everything she imagined; Jackson and Sutton are back in her life. She’s shocked when the police interrupts her wedding. They’ve come to arrest her new husband. Would Skylar stand by Jackson if he goes to prison? Of course she would because she’s waited years for him. Even when things look bleak for them, Skylar stays strong. She has to for her daughter’s sake. Sutton has gone through so much already.
The one new thing about Condemned: we don’t just get Jackson and Skylar’s POV. We enter the minds of many characters, which is frankly pretty awesome.
Skylar’s past mistakes aren’t the only one biting them in the ass. Ambitious Assistant DA, Adrianne Washington’s connected to Jackson’s shady deeds. Oh yeah, Skylar’s mistakes aren’t enough for this story. She does everything in her power to make sure he pays! But will her grudge cost her everything she’s worked so hard for? Is it really worth it?
We also hear a bit from Sutton. She’s such a strong kid, like her mother, and stubborn like her father. The way she dealt with her inevitable teen drama on top of everything going on with her parents blew me away. When her father gets arrested, she holds it together for her mom’s sake. But she’s falling apart inside. She doesn’t want her father in jail, but she feels powerless to stop it. Any other 15 (almost 16) year old would fall apart, rebel, maybe end up with a drug addiction or pregnant. Not Sutton. Her parents (Jackson’s brother) raised her well and she misses them terribly. She wishes they were alive, but she knows if they were she wouldn’t have Skylar and Jackson. She’s torn between the couple who raised her and the couple who gave her life.
How can I describe Jackson? He gets arrested in the middle of his wedding, faces serious jail time and let’s not forget he’s a famous NFL player. His life playing out in the gossip rags isn’t lessening his stress. The gossip rags don’t know about Skylar and Jackson’s relationship until Skylar’s name happened to be leaked to the press by a certain ambitious Assistant DA. With his life falling apart around him, Jackson does his best to keep his family together. He’s angry at Skylar but at the same time, he loves her. He understands her decisions. He’s not sure if he can beat the charges against him, so he has to prepare himself for prison. (Maybe some soap on a rope?)
Drama, Surprises, twists, turns, surprise characters and secrets revealed. The cliffhanger has you asking: Can Skylar and Jackson’s love conquer all the obstacles or will they fall apart?
Beware: There is a cliffhanger ending. Be prepared to wait for the next book to find out if Jackson, Sutton and Skylar live happily ever after.
